The Artistry Behind the Coin

Obverse: Features the classic portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, modernized by William Cousins for the State Quarter series. Washington's dignified profile faces left, with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "QUARTER DOLLAR," and "LIBERTY" inscribed around the rim, while "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears to the left of his portrait.

Reverse: Designed by Norman E. Nemeth, the reverse showcases Helen Keller seated at a table with an open book, her fingers reading Braille. A banner with her name in English and Braille flows across the design. Long leaf pine branches frame the composition on both sides, while a magnolia blossom appears in the lower right. The state name "ALABAMA" arches across the top, with "1819" marking statehood and "2003" the year of issue. The motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the Denver "D" mint mark complete this powerful tribute to courage and perseverance.

Why Collectors Choose This Roll

The 2003 Alabama State Quarter stands out as one of the most meaningful designs in the entire 50 State Quarters Program, honoring Helen Keller as the first person with a disability to appear on U.S. circulating coinage. This bank-wrapped roll preserves 40 examples in Gem Brilliant Uncirculated condition, offering exceptional value for collectors building complete sets, investors seeking multiple specimens, or those looking to share this historic issue with family and friends. The original String & Sons wrapper adds authenticity and collectibility to this Denver Mint roll.
